New Women's College Hospital

January 18, 2007

The Women ' s College Foundation celebrated the formal introduction of the New Women's College Hospital on January 18, 2007 at MaRs in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This hospital has been in operation for more than a century in Toronto and gained its independent governance on April 1, 2006. It is a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the prestigious University of Toronto with a primary focus on ambulatory care serving women and their families.

Ambulatory Care

Ambulatory care is any treatment or examination in which the patient go home within 23 hours such as services ranging from brief diagnostic investigations or therapeutic treatments to surgical interventions that can be done on a short-stay basis. With improvement in medical procedures, more health care services are being provided in this way, which costs less, minimizes disruption to patients' lives, reduces the chance of infection, and allows for recovery in the comforts of home.

What's New

The Women's College Hospital Foundation is now raising funds for redevelopment of the hospital's Grenville site - see some of the events listed here! This new facility will be a "state-of-the-art ambulatory care hospital serving women and their families."
