On May 17, 2007, The Red Door Family Shelter held its 2nd Annual Fund Raising Gala with: An Evening Through the Red Door. Hosted by the elegant Larysa Harapyn of Star! Daily! this was a great evening for a very worthy cause with fine wine, spectacular food beautifully catered and a live and silent auction which included a trip to party at the Playboy Mansion and art by live artist Jessica Gorlicky.
About the Red Door
The Red Door Shelter provides 240 beds at three sites in Toronto for refugees, homeless families, the elderly, abused women and their children and young mothers with newborn babies. The Red Door, offers, in addition to short term emergency shelter: legal and immigration support, crisis counselling , medical assistance, ESL classes, child care programs, housing referrals and other supports.
The Red Door Shelter addresses the needs of the total family by providing intensive in-house crisis counselling and problem solving which includes referrals in cases where the staff identifies problems such as abuse, alcoholism, depression, torture and parenting concerns. The Red Door partners with other organizations such as the Public Health Department, Toronto Board of Education, community health clinics, Children's Aid Societies, The Creche Child and Family Centre, Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre, legal aid clinics, the Toronto Police Services, Victim Services of Metropolitan Toronto and many other community agencies.
