GLITZ AND GLAM AT THE LIBERTY GRAND
VIVA LAS VEGAS
May 31, 2007 was the night when the 7th annual Pencer Brain Trust transformed
the Liberty Grand Complex into 'Sin City' for Viva Las Vegas. The experience began
on the red carpet with Champaign Showgirls Katherine and Natasha
greeting guests with smiles and feathers. Once inside you would think you were in
Caesar's Palace - inspired by the servers wearing roman togas at the salad bar in a
garden setting. A fabulous Silent Auction with more than 160 tempting items was
extremely popular, just like the nearby Graceland Wedding Chapel where guests
could have their photos taken with the King of Rock and Roll.
While many enjoyed the summer weather and the various food stations in the gardens,
others flocked indoors for a show by ' Hangtime Presents.'
Later the Anita Rossi Band featured Vegas performances by the Elvis tribute artist
fresh from the Wedding Chapel and Vegas icon Celine Dion.
If you had a song in your heart, then the Karaoke Bar was for you. Gaming tables were
constantly occupied by those who wanted to try their luck at Black Jack or the
Wheel of Chance. This was truly Las Vegas Pencer style!
ABOUT THE GERRY & NANCY PENCER BRAIN TRUST
On May 23, 1997 Gerry Pencer was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiform
brain tumor. During the course of his illness, Gerry sought information and treatment
options that were not readily available. Being a pro-active person, he thought something
should be done about this for others suffering from the same disease. As a result, Gerry
transformed his devastating diagnosis into The Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Trust,
a charity organization with a mandate to make a difference in the quality of life for
People living with brain tumors. Many years later, The Pencer Brain Trust is the
primary source of funding for The Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre at the
Princess Margaret Hospital.
Viva Las Vegas would not have been possible without the incredible dedication of the
Gala Committee comprised of co-chairs Stacy Cynamon and Holly Pencer Bellman
along with Honorary Chair Nancy Pencer. In just seven years, this annual 'grassroots'
fund-raiser has evolved as one of the most creative and respected galas in Toronto
each spring. More than 1,000 people attended Viva Las Vegas and the night generated
upwards of $600,000 for this worthy cause. To donate or for more information on this event or
