PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange

March 5 to 8, 2006

PDAC, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada held its International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 5 to 8, 2006. According to its web site, "PDAC exists to protect and promote the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration sector and to ensure a robust mining industry in Canada. Now in its 74th year, The PDAC’s annual convention is an important international meeting for the mineral exploration and development community attracting in excess of 10,000 delegates from over 95 countries. This convention has been a gathering place for people and companies involved in the search and development of new mineral deposits. The PDAC 2006 convention consisted of The Trade Show and Investors Exchange, technical programs, PDAC Annual General Meeting. Evening events include, welcome reception, the Awards gala, Dynamic CMP FUnds Mining Night and the Wrap Party.

The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada announced its annual awards for 2006 at the association’s annual awards gala dinner at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Monday, March 6. The winners are:

  • Thayer Lindsley International Discovery Award: Larry J. Buchanan of Apex Silver Mines Corporation for his discovery of the massive San Cristobal silver deposit in Bolivia
  • Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year: Virginia Gold Mines Inc. team, comprising André Gaumond, Paul Archer, Alain Cayer, and Jean-François Ouellette, for the discovery of several gold deposits on the company’s Éléonore property in the James Bay area in Quebec
  • Viola R. MacMillan Developer’s Award: Michael Kenyon and Roman Shklanka, co-founders of Canico Resource Corporation, a Vancouver-based junior and owner of the Onça-Puma, a large undeveloped nickel deposit in Brazil that is currently being acquired by CV
  • Special Achievement Award: Ian Telfer, CEO of Goldcorp, for his extraordinary entrepreneurial and financing achievements since his first venture into the precious metals business in 1983
  • Distinguished Achievement Award: C. David Comba, former director of regulatory affairs with the PDAC, will be honoured for his contributions to the association and to this country’s exploration industry & Bill Mercer receives this award for his energetic and enthusiastic service to the PDAC
  • E3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration Award: Greystar Resources Ltd. for its achievements at the Angostura gold-silver project in Colombia
  • Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award: Tony Barresi
