North by Northeast 2007

The 2007 North by Northeast (NXNE) was held June 7 to 10, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario. NXNE is an important Canadian music & film festival which consists of the music festival, the film festival as well as the NXNE industry conference. For the last thirteen years, NXNE has developed an international reputation for discovering new & emerging talent to not only music fans but also industry professionals. According to NXNE, this Music Festival spans four nights of performances, with 450 showcasing bands at over 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto and has helped jump start the careers of artists such as SUM 41, Billy Talent, K-OS, Sarah Harmer, Sam Roberts, , Sufjan Stevens, DKT/MC5, Ambulance Ltd, Gord Downie and others. The industry conference consists of panels, roundtables, workshops, seminars, and always controversial speakers such as: Patti Smith, Danny Goldberg, Steve Earle, Andrew Loog Oldham, John Lydon, and Wayne Kramer of DKT / MC5. The celebrity interview included Tom Verlaine. The film festival component, now in its fifth year provides music related films.

The 2007 North By Northeast Music & Film Festival and Conference had its second annual Town Hall at the CHUM building in Toronto, Ontario and included many participants such as Dave Bason of Road Runner Records and Greg Boggs of SONY / BMG. This Town Hall explored music issues in the future.

NXNE had its Gala Launch at Toronto landmark, the stunning Palais Royale which was built in 1921. This is a beautiful place for the gala launch but with so much talent floating around that place, it would have been great to hear them play during the gala!!!
