Honda Indy Toronto 2009

The Honda Indy Toronto was held in Toronto, Ontario from July 10 to 12, 2009. This three-day event is more than just the main race which was held on Sunday, July 12, 2009 - it also includes entertainment such as Sass Jordan ( see past events - Canadian Music Week 2009 ) and exhibitions such as feature race displays, pit stop challenges, an art show and interactive games. The drivers jockey for position during two days of qualifying and those that qualify then meet for the main event. Their position on the track is determined by the time of their best lap.

Indy Toronto

The running of the Indy Toronto took place Sunday July 12, 2009 at the Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario. Although Canadians Alex Tagliani (who married and moved to Toronto circa 2007 - see past event - Indy 2007) held the lead twice and Paul Tracy made another of his signature charges and looked sure to place within the top three: they both lost. Franchitti and Tracy headed into the pits on lap 60. Tracy claims that he beat Franchitti out of the pits; however, race controllers told him that Franchitti had beat him out and that he had to allow Franchitti to pass him. Tracy tried to follow Franchitti and go inside Castroneves. “I was anxious to stay with Dario because over a long run I thought I could out-race him,” said Tracy. Castroneves pinned Tracy against the wall, ending Tracy's chances at victory.

The winners of the 2009 Indy Toronto were:

  • 1st Place: Dario Franchitti
  • 2nd Place: Ryan Briscoe
  • 3rd Place: Will Power
