This was the theme for this year’s BMO Financial Group Scrubs in the City, in collaboration with Mantella Corporation, to benefit The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).  The event was held in Toronto at Evergreen Brick Works on Thursday June 1st, 2017.  It was a magical evening of fine hor d’oeuvres and tastes of Moroccan cuisine and the wonders and delights of this exotic culture, for a good cause.  Upon arrival, belly dancers and camels reminiscent of being in Morocco greeted guests.  Inside the attendees felt that they were being led into an Arabian night oasis.  The rich pink and bold purple color and low-level seating and bright cushions and rugs made for a beautiful themed event.
Guests were served signature drinks and passed a simply stunning variety hor d’oeuvres.  The mouth watering selections of meat hor d’oeuvres were the harissa glazed fried chicken, duck confit briouat (turnovers).  The refreshing vegetarian hor d’oeuvres options were of Moroccan flatbread with poached fig and akawi cheese with lemon olive oil and the delicate seafood options were Moroccan Tacos with lobster and sea bass and Ahi Tuna Tartar.  After a brief break of sampling, it was now on to the food stations offering a choice of different tastes and menus.

Attendees were treated to entertainment throughout the evening such as belly dancers, Moroccan performers doing balancing acts on stilts and a live band spilling out modern and classic top hits.  There was a fire throwing act juggling to the tune “Fireball” by Pitbull, all the while guests were dancing away.  An exclusive silent auction was available to guests and non-guests alike including luxury one-of-a-kind items such as a Breakfast at Tiffany’s experience, a private catered shopping event for 25 at The September Townhouse, and numerous luxury hotel stays at Fairmont properties worldwide.  Also a chance to get amazing seats to the upcoming sold out Bruno Mars 24k Magic World Tour was also an option.

Committee Members were:  Co-Chairs:  Molly Fitzpatrick, Lucinda Kogan and members, Julie Crossland, Romelia Dilawri, Laryssa Fatt, Vivian Greenberg, Stephanie Lewis, Sylvia Mantella, Holly Miklas, Julia Mordini, Suzanne Rogers, Candice Sinclair and Special guest and Instagram sensation Dean the Basset.
