Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Weekend 2017

The HHOF held their Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Weekend from November 10 to 13, 2017.  It consisted of the Hockey Hall of Fame game between Boston and Toronto played in Boston on November 10, the Haggar Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classic on November 11 and the Induction Celebration on November 13, 2017.

Haggar Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classic:

Hockey icons Mark Messier and Jari Kurri captained two star-studded teams in this entertaining annual classic hockey game.  It featured a pre-game ceremony honouring the Induction Class of 2017 ? Andreychuk, Drake, Jacobs, Goyette, Kariya, Recchi and Selanne.  The following greats appeared in this entertaining game:  Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Andreychuk, Bourque, Ciccarelli, Goyette, Hawerchuk, Heaney, Howe, Kariya, Larionov, Murphy, Recchi, Selanne, Stastny, Stevens, Trottier, Antropov, Biron, Bondra, Broten, Clark, Elias, Giguere, Iafrate, Kaberle, Nicholls, Richards, Roenick, St. Louis.

The 2017 Induction Celebration:

The 2017 Induction Celebration was held on Monday, November 13th at the beautiful home of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.  It was a great year for the HHOF induction as seven strong individuals were inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Membership:  five in the Player Category and two in the Builder Category.  “The Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to welcome these hockey legends as Honoured Members,” said Lanny McDonald.  “Their contributions to the game of hockey are well documented and their election to the Hockey Hall of Fame is richly deserved.”

Player Category:

Teemu Selanne scored 76 goals in his rookie year; 
Paul Kariya , who was drafted by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 1993 and played nine seasons with the organization - he recorded over 100 points twice (1996 and 1999) and scored 50 goals in 1995-96.
Mark Recchi was one of only ten plays to win the Stanley Cup on three teams:  Pittsburgh in 1991, Carolina in 2006 and Boston in 2011.  He played in 1,652 NHL games. 
Dave Andreychuk played in over 1600 NHL regular season games in more than 20 seasons in the NHL - he scored 640 regular season goals and 698 assists;
Danielle Goyette won seven gold medals at the Women’s World Championships as well as a silver medal and two gold medals at the Olympics for Canada.

In the Builder Category

Clare Drake was head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears for 28 years – winning six national championships.

Jeremy Jacobs purchased the Boston Bruins in 1975 and has been Owner and Governor of the team since.  He won the Lester Patrick Award for service to hockey in the U.S.  in 2015 and the Chairman of the NHL Board of Governors since 2007.
