Virtual Reality Toronto Conference and Expo 2017

The Virtual Reality Toronto Conference and Expo 2017 were held June 24 to 26 at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario.  It is an international exhibition and professional conference exploring arts, culture and science through immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality.  It consisted of the Conference, Networking, Innovators’ Showcase, VR Video Game & Experiences Showcase, VR Onboarding Workshop for Film & TV Pros, and training.

VIPs

Attending the event was Alex Lifeson of the iconic Canadian group RUSH (photographed here with Keram Malicki-Sanchez, VRTO Founder and Executive Director.)  Also attending were Sara Dr. Sarah Diamond — President of OCAD University and Moses Znaimer, cofounder of City TV and founder of Zoomer Media and creator of audience-interactive play “Tamara” and “Tour of the Universe” the world’s first flight simulator ride – See photo of Sara & Moses at the VIP Reception.

Professional International Conference:

The conference featured over 65 speakers and spanned three days - explored virtual, augmented and mixed reality conceptualization, research and development, production and postproduction, distribution and marketing, sales and metrics.

Innovators’ Showcase:

Start-ups, students and established industry leaders demonstrated the latest products and services such as Smart Devices, 3D Printing and Internet of Things.

VR Video Game & Experiences Showcase:

The latest games, prototypes and experiential spaces from indie and established studios such as Postopian, Secret Location, Dustin Freeman, Globacore, and BadFly Interactive were demonstrated.

Weber, Augmented Reality & Spatialized 3D Audio Zones:
There were dedicated rooms, workshops, training with professors, inventors, ethical hackers. Janus Camp and the creators of JanusVR – James McRae and Dr. Karan Singh attended the conference to explain it. An Augmented Art Gallery presented applications in the art world.

Health Applications for VR, including Wearables
Dr. Walter Greenleaf described how VR and AR will transform healthcare now and in the future.

Financing:

TorontoArtsandEvents attended a couple of events on funding programs as well as tax credits for VR, AR and/or 360 productions made in Ontario from CMF/Telefilm, FACTOR, OCE, OMDC, and SIRT/IRAP presented their respective programs and engaged in Q&A.
