Starlight Children’s Foundation’s 22nd Annual Fundraising gala, a ‘Venetian Masquerade Ball’

On Saturday, April 9, 2017, Toronto Arts and Events had pleasure of attending the Starlight Children’s Foundation’s annual fundraiser a ‘Venetian Masquerade Ball’ at the historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel. This year’s fundraising event raised $960,000 through the immense generosity of attendees, donors and sponsors: Presenting Sponsors, Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us Canada; Diamond Sponsor, Great Blue Heron; Gold Sponsors, Air Canada Foundation, Michaels, Bloom & Lanys Barristers and Solicitors and Barrick Gold Corporation; and Silver Sponsors, YTV, Hasbro and Mattel. All of the proceeds from this event will be directed to the organization’s programs and services that help terminally ill kids and their families have a normal childhood and create positive memories for them. Their In-hospital and Out-of-Hospital programs provide children with fun distractions from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect with other families who are undergoing similar challenges.

In the weeks leading up to the gala, guests were told that the party’s theme would be a Venetian Masquerade Ball. When guests entered the event, they were surrounded by a set by a Phantom of the Opera inspired pianist.  The venue featured a golden hued atmosphere flanked with period columns throughout; transporting guests into a period of intrigue and surprises.  Masked characters mingled with guests while a contortionist performed.  After a four course dinner, the event concluded with an exciting after party with illuminated columns, a DJ as well as a photo booth.  The cuddly soft Starlight Bear dolls named ‘Beario’ and the Moos Like Jagger cow dolls were also given to the guests in exchange for a donation.

The 22nd Annual Starlight Children’s Foundation Gala

The 22nd Annual Starlight Children’s Foundation Gala was an absolutely smashing, brilliant, and epic evening! Terminally ill children are forced to grow up so quickly. The days spent in hospitals and the illnesses themselves rob them of their quickly fleeting childhood. All children deserve to have moments of happiness and fun in their lives, no matter what. The Starlight Children’s Foundation makes sure that terminally ill children have their childhood.
