PDAC’s 85th annual International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange 2017

PDAC, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, held its 85th annual International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from March 5 to 8, 2017.  According to its web site, “PDAC exists to protect and promote the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration sector and to ensure a robust mining industry in Canada. The PDAC will encourage the highest standards of technical, environmental, safety and social practices in Canada and internationally.” and the “PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange is the world’s leading Convention for people, companies and organizations in, or connected with, mineral exploration. In addition to meeting over 1,000 exhibitors and 23,500 attendees from over 100 countries, you can also attend technical sessions, short courses and networking events.”

“The mineral exploration and mining industry is cyclical in nature and has faced a variety of economic challenges over the past several years, but optimism has always remained and it’s fantastic to see this being reflected at the PDAC Convention,” says PDAC President Glenn Mullan, referring to sold out exhibitor space, investor meetings, Short Courses, Mineral Outlook Luncheon, and Awards Gala. “There was an upbeat vibe throughout the convention—a positive sign for the sector going forward.”
The PDAC’s annual convention is an important international meeting for the mineral exploration and development community attracting in excess of 23,500 delegates from over the globe.  This convention has been a gathering place for people and companies involved in the search and development of new mineral deposits. The PDAC 2017 convention consisted of The Trade Show and Investors Exchange, technical programs and the PDAC Annual General Meeting.  The World Economic Forum hosted the International Mines Ministers Summit (IMMS) for the second year and brought together 25 Ministers responsible for mining from around the world. Evening events included the welcome reception, the Awards gala, Mining Night, Closing Party, and many private receptions. A number of events including the CSR Event Series, Aboriginal Program and Investors Exchange were open to the general public and generated a great deal of interest.  Torontoartsandevents attended a Deloitte Cybersecurity luncheon.

Deloitte’s Cybersecurity Simulation and Luncheon:  Tuesday, March 7, 2017:

Robert Masse & Nathan Spitse of Deloitte presented key organizational risks to mining executives and allowed those present to increase their understanding of Incident Response & Crisis Management and to practice roles in a safe environment, increase probability of success when they are faced with a similar situation, and expose missing roles, visibility, and controls that they may have in their organization.  It was both an interesting and informative presentation.
