The Men’s Tennis Canada Cup 2016 was held July 23 to 31, 2016 at the Aviva Centre on the campus of York University which is located at the north end of Toronto.
Since 1892, the best tennis players in the world have showcased their skills on Canadian courts. Only Wimbledon and the U.S. Open have longer histories than the major Canadian stop, which is acknowledged by the tennis world to be one of the best run tournaments on the Tour. Classified as a Premier event under the WTA Tour Roadmap, this event offers $2 U.S. million in prize money and attracts the brightest stars of tennis year after year. [tenniscanada.com]
This tournament usually attracts the men’s ten of the ten top players; however, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray withdrew from the tournament.

Gael Monfils played a great match – serving well and returning great to defeat Milos Raonic on Friday night 6-4, 6-4.  He saved four out of four break points.  Raonic did not play well.

The world No. 1 and top seed Novak Djokovic defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets 7-6 6-4.  Tomas had three set points in the tie-breaker in the first set; however, Djokovic prevailed in the tie-breaker and then went on to win the second set.
Novak Djokovic dazzled the crowd with power and accuracy on the court in his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gael Monfils of France.  Monfils broke the No. 1 World player in the first game of the match but after that it was all Djokovic.

Kei Nishikori defeated Stan Wawrinka in the first set tie-breaker 7-6 and then Stan seemed to fade as he lost the 2nd set 6-1.

Novak Djokovic continued to dazzle the crowd with his serve, power and accuracy in his match with Kei Nishikori of Japan.  Djokovic broke to 4-2 in the opening set and continued to win it 6-3.  But Nishikori fought back in the second set and the World No. 1 lowered his level -  Nishikori broke Djokovic to be on serve 4-3 in his favour.  Djokovic stepped up his game by holding serve and breaking his opponent to win the second set 7-5.  The final score was Djokovic 6-3, 7-5.

Now that Federer withdrew from the U.S. Open, it will be interesting to see how the rest do at the U.S. Open!!  Will Djokovic continuing his great play?
