On Thursday, November 5, 2015 the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF) continued its partnership with Gold Medal Plates (GMP) by holding its Gold Medal Plates Fundraising Event at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It was their 10th anniversary and the sixth of the ten cities, cross-country series of fundraisers to raise funds for high-performance sport in Canada. These events combine a celebration of Canadian excellence in sport with cuisine, wine and entertainment.  Olympians, past and present, showed support in Toronto for this event and the funds raised for the Canadian Olympic Foundation will directly benefit Canada’s Olympians.

Besides four-time Olympian Curt Harnett, numerous Canadian Olympians and Pan American athletes were also in attendance at the evening’s fundraising event, including: Ohenewa Akuffo (Beijing 2008); Gillian Apps (Sochi 2014, Vancouver 2010, Turin 2006); Josh Binstock (London 2012); Tessa Bonhomme (Vancouver 2010); Therese Brisson (Salt Lake City 2002, Nagano 1998); Claire Carver-Dias (Sydney 2000); Karen Cockburn (London 2012, Beijing 2008, Athens 2004, Sydney 2000); Mark de Jonge (London 2012); Deidra Dionne (Turin 2006, Salt Lake City 2002); Nicole Forrester (Beijing 2008); Ryan Fry (Sochi 2014); Diana Matheson (London 2012, Beijing 2008); Marnie McBean (Atlanta 1996, Barcelona 1992); Heather Moyse (Sochi 2014, Vancouver 2010, Turin 2006); Mark Oldershaw (London 2012, Beijing 2008); Alexandra Orlando (Beijing 2008); Caroline Ouellette (Sochi 2014, Vancouver 2010, Turin 2006, Salt Lake City 2002); Olya Ovtchinnikova (Beijing 2008); Ken Pereira (Beijing 2008, Sydney 2000); Brian Price (London 2012, Beijing 2008, Athens 2004); Martin Reader (London 2012); Scott Sandison (Beijing 2008); Brian Stemmle (Nagano 1998, Lillehammer 1994, Albertville 1992, Calgary 1988); Mathieu Turgeon (Athens 2004, Sydney 2000); Dorota Urbaniak (Sydney 2000); Rachelle Viinberg (London 2012, Beijing 2008); and Tessa Virtue (Sochi 2014, Vancouver 2010).  The top chef from each city will go on to compete at the Canadian Culinary Championship at Kelowna, British Columbia in February 2016. Net proceeds will support high-performance athletes through programs recommended by Own the Podium.

“The people and culinary talent of Toronto have come together yet again for another outstanding Gold Medal Plates event. It’s inspiring for Olympians to know that their country cares so much about sport and is there to support them.”  Curt Harnett, four-time Olympian, three-time Olympic medalist, GMP Athlete Ambassador
