ELEMENTS - Sinfonia Toronto Concert

HOMAGE TO EARTH, FIRE, AIR AND WATER AT SINFONIA TORONTO CONCERT

Sinfonia Toronto’s next concert on Friday, April 8, will feature brilliant violinist Brian Lewis. Mr. Lewis will be heard in the Toronto premiere of American composer Michael McLean’s ‘Elements’ and Mozart’s lovely ‘Rondo’. Especially written for Brian Lewis ‘Elements’ is a violin concerto which Mr. Lewis has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra to great critical acclaim. Conductor Nurhan Arman will lead the orchestra in a brilliant program that includes Beethoven’s monumental ‘Grosse Fuge’ and Glazounov’s ‘Theme and Variations’.

One of the most versatile and charismatic violinists today, Brian Lewis is an exceptionally gifted performer whose passionate artistry has been heard and embraced around the world. “There are a lot of fine violinists on the concert stage today, but few can match Lewis for an honest virtuosity that supremely serves the music,” reports the Topeka Capital-Journal. His acclaimed performances include concerto debuts in both New York’s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, as well as performances in Australia, Canada, the French West Indies, Puerto Rico, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, France, England, Denmark, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, and Brazil.

Now in its 17th season, Sinfonia Toronto has toured in United States and twice in Europe, receiving glowing reviews. It has released four CD’s, including a JUNO Award winner, and performs in many Ontario cities. Its extensive repertoire includes all the major string orchestra works of the 18th through 21st centuries, and it has premiered many new works. Under the baton of Nurhan Arman the orchestra’s performances present outstanding international guest artists and prominent Canadian musicians.

Nurhan Arman has conducted throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Canada and the United States, returning regularly to many orchestras in Europe. Among the orchestras Maestro Arman has conducted are the Moscow Philharmonic, Deutsches Kammerorchester Frankfurt, Filarmonica Italiana, St. Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra, Orchestre Regional d’Ile de France, Hungarian Symphony, Milano Classica and Belgrade Philharmonic.
