TIF NEW LABELS

“The Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) is pleased to announce Target® as the Presenting sponsor of its prestigious national fashion design competition and fashion show gala, TFI New Labels®. On April 30, 2013, at the historic Carlu, an inspiring runway sets the stage where one lucky up-and-coming Canadian designer will win a spectacular prize package of $25,000 cash awarded by TFI supporter Suzanne Rogers, an unparalleled opportunity to create an exclusive collection to be sold in Target stores across Canada in 2014, and a full-page editorial feature in Flare Magazine. Supporting TFI New Labels® for the sixth consecutive year, exclusive beauty partner P&G Beauty & Grooming will be creating fresh beauty looks for the spectacular fashion show which will be emceed by television icon, Dina Pugliese (Breakfast Television).

Established in 1992 as Canada’s original, nation-wide search for emerging young designers, TFI New Labels® has launched the careers of the hottest up-coming design talent in Canada. Notable TFI New Labels® alumni include Todd Lynn, Joeffer Caoc, Juma, Anastasia Lomonova, Golnaz Ashtiani and 2012 winner, Sid Neigum. The competition runs over six months where a hand-picked group of semi-finalists meet and interact with a prestigious panel of judges from whom they gain valuable knowledge about developing a successful line. At each judging session, designers compete to move forward or risk being eliminated until only four finalists remain. The 2013 TFI New Labels® finalists will be announced at the end of March. This year’s noteworthy judges include:TNT boutique owner Arie Assaraf, Target Divisional Merchandise Manager Elisha Ballantyne, Target Senior Vice President, Merchandising, John Morioka, celebrated fashion designer David Dixon, philanthropist Suzanne Rogers, and Flare Editor-in-Chief Miranda Purves.

“TFI New Labels® offers emerging Canadian designers an exceptional opportunity to launch their brand and gain invaluable mentoring from top industry experts,” said Susan Langdon, TFI’s Executive Director. “Target’s amazing contribution to this year’s competition demonstrates its commitment to great design and supporting the communities in which they do business. We are also extremely grateful to Suzanne Rogers, Flare and P&G Beauty & Grooming for their generous and long-standing support of TFI New Labels®.”

“Target is known for its innovative partnerships and making fashion and design accessible for everyone,” said John Morioka, Senior Vice President, Merchandising, Target Canada. “We are excited to promote Canadian talent in a meaningful way and look forward to seeing the collection come to life in store in 2014.”
