The Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario#&39s Annual Conference was held January 30 to February 1, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building! Entitled, INNOVATE ང, the association estimated that 4,000 HR and business professionals attend HRPAO's annual conference this year and that it is the second largest in the world.
According to this association, "Effective HR management has never been more important to a winning business strategy. And the role of the HR professional as talent scout, coach and referee has never been more critical. A world-class line-up of dynamic speakers will equip you with the knowledge of emerging trends and cutting-edge solutions you need to lead a high-performing team."
HRPAO's annual conference consisted of the Executive Program, the special Pre-conference program, a conference kick-off event, keynote speakers and sessions, and sessions all dealing with important issues effecting today's human resource professional. Speaker Ian Thomas used his intimate knowledge of lions to create thriving business teams; Dan Heath revealed how you can make ideas more effective;
Ram Charan shared his secrets to identifying and developing
leaders; Max Valiquette described how business should adopt to the elusive Generation Y based on their needs and wants in their work; Steve L. Robbins ties the notion of cultural inclusion to business innovation; and in the closing address Benjamin Zander awakened the possibility in all of us. TorontoArtsandEvents asked Max Valiquette how large business was reacting to his suggestions: "Not Well" was his response. I guess large organizations move slowly. The legal sessions such as What's New in HR Law were of great interest to attendees due to the increasing complexity of our legal system. There were two great evening events: French Twist and Cabin Fever.
