Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario

Annual Conference

January 31 to February 2, 2007

YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE HERE 7

The Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario's Annual Conference was held January 31 to February 2, 2007 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building! Entitled, YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. HERE 7, the association estimated that 4,000 HR and business professionals attend HRPAO's annual conference this year and that it is the second largest in the world. According to this association, "Effective HR management has never been more important to a winning business strategy. And the role of the HR professional as talent scout, coach and referee has never been more critical. A world-class line-up of dynamic speakers will equip you with the knowledge of emerging trends and cutting-edge solutions you need to lead a high-performing team."

HRPAO's annual conference consisted of the Executive Program, the special Pre-conference program, a conference kick-off event, keynote speakers and sessions, and sessions all dealing with important issues effecting today's human resource professional. Closing keynote speaker Justin Menkes described the cognitive skills necessary for executive intelligence and to excel in senior management positions. Luncheon keynote speaker, Leonard Brody provided insight into Canada's successes in Canada in This Monumental Shift: An In-depth look into the Future of Canada, Technology and the Changing Workforce. The legal sessions such as What's New in HR Law were of great interest to attendees due to the increasing complexity of our legal system. There were two great evening events: Casino Royale 007 ( inspired by the new James Bond film ) featured classic French cuisine, jazz and a casino; however, you could not bet real money nor did many dress up as James Bond characters and; Heat Wave! The Motown Tribute was held on February 1, 2007 that paid tribute to the golden age of Mowtown with a live band, dance contests and a DJ.

ARPAO announced two new releases at this conference: HR eSource which is an e-learning solution available in 40 modules online or on CD-ROM and it has been working with the Government of Canada for the past 3 years to develop this initiative and www.HRThoughtLeader.com, which is not only an online HR portal for HR research and news, but it is also a place for the HR community to interact via blogs, discussion forums, an HR Wiki, pod casts, etc. Surf ARPAO's site by clicking on this page to discover more about this year's annual conference.
