Sheena's Place held the hot & steamy FireBall on Saturday November 7, 2009 at the Capital Event Theatre which was transformed into a sea of red hot partygoers. This party brought together over 500 of the city’s young movers and shakers to the Capitol Event Theatre for a steamy night on the town. Guests sipped on fine cocktails from the martini bar, ate oysters on the half shell, enjoyed fine delicacies at the food stations while biding on sizzling silent auction items and test lady luck at the raffle. The young crowd enjoyed the dance floor. According to Sheena's Place, this ball has raised, during the past ten years, over $755,000 net.

About Sheena's Place

"Sheena Carpenter did not survive her eating disorder. In response to her death in 1993, friends and colleagues of Sheena's mother Lynn, were motivated to create a place that would offer hope and support to people like Sheena. Sheena's Place is now a centre offering services in a welcoming, non-institutional environment and is centrally located in downtown Toronto close to public transportation. Sheena's Place serves as a link between people with eating disorders and hospital based programs, schools, agencies, therapists, families. It isn’t a residential facility. Individuals do not live here. We offer a wide range of support programs for people affected by eating disorders and their families. No referral is necessary and we respect the need and desire for confidentiality. Our programs are offered at no cost to participants. Sheena's Place does not receive government funding for operational expenses. We rely on the generosity and financial support of individuals, corporations, foundations and the proceeds from special events" "Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Over 15% of people with anorexia will die from complications related to their disorder. With only 20 publicly funded beds and limited private inpatient beds, wait times can range from 6 months to over a year." [www.sheenasplace.org]

The FireBall Gala was a hot evening for a worthy cause; namely, Sheena's Place. It was a great effort on the part of all the sponsors, organizers and business that donated auction items to support Sheena's Place. Check back here for next year's FireBall!!!!
