Earth Day Canada held its annual charity gala on June 1, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with proceeds going to its programs. This gala consisted of a reception, a presentation by Jed Goldberg, President of Earth Day , the awards ceremony and the dinner. Musical entertainment was provided by Whitney Smith & The Big Steam Band. MC Mark McKinney was very funny introducing the largely corporate table sponsors. According to Mark, "The environment is sexy". The dinner was prepared by Jonas Stadtländer, Michael Dixon and Ross Fraser, three hand-picked protégés of Michael Stadtländer of Eigensinn Farm. David Suzuki commented after dinner and then gave the Toyota Earth Day Canada Scholarship Award to BJ Bodnar ( Casa Rosa, Saskatchewan ) who received a notebook computer and a ticket on the Students on Ice expedition bound for the Arctic this summer.
As the host stated, the environment is sexy; however, TorontoArtsandEvents wonders how much of the environmental movement is really helping the environment and lowering green house gases and how much is really just good PR for corporations!
