The Yee Hong Centre held its 19th annual "Discover China", Dragon Ball on February 9, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre with a blend of East and West and an exciting program leading to the countdown ushering in the Year of the Rat:
- 5:30 p.m. Grand Reception with thousands of pieces of delicious foods from participating restaurants ( yum yum )
- 7:00 p.m. Grand Procession
- 7:15 p.m. Opening Performance
- 8:30 p.m. Gala Dinner followed by awards, entertainment and dancing
According to the producers, the Dragon Ball is the largest Chinese New Year Charity Gala in North America with more than 1,500 guests gathering to partake in what is one of the worldıs largest festivals the Lunar New Year. At the Grand Reception starting at 5.30 p.m., over 15,000 pieces of hors dıoeuvres, donated and prepared by some of Torontoıs finest restaurants, were served.
The Chinese Dance Workshop, fine food and the God of Fortune brought long-standing traditions to the eveningıs celebrations. The entertainment included Cynthia Dale, Juno award winning Michael Occhipinti performed with the Lester McLean Trio for dinner jazz and Grooveyard provided the dance music. The dinner was a fine steak. The Live Auction allowed guests the opportunity to bid on a a 15-Day Best of China and Yangtze River Cruise donated by Tour East Holidays and Air Canada, valued at $15,000; an 11-Night Western Mediterranean & Morocco Cruise donated by Cruise Holidays of Bayview Hills, valued at $12,000; and an evening out at the Living Arts Centre with Mayor Hazel McCallion and other items.

According to organizers, the Dragon Ball raised more than one million dollars for seniors services at the Yee Hong Centre and since 1989 has raised nearly $15 million net to support the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, which last year served a record number of 15,000 people in the Greater Toronto Area with services ranging from community services to long term care at one of four Centres.
