Canadian Music Week 2008

"Money Honey"

The 2008 Canadian Music Week was held March 5 to 8, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario and attracted participants from across the globe. CMW is Canada's largest annual event dedicated to the celebration and promotion of the country's music, media and entertainment industries. It consisted of two conferences, a trade exposition and four awards events; namely; the Indies, the Crystal Awards, the Canadian Music Industry Gala Awards and the Canadian Radio Music Awards.

CMW's Music & Entertainment Convention has delegates from record companies, music manufacturers, radio and music television broadcasters, music retailers and distributors, new media/Internet producers, concert promoters, venue managers, music & video producers, and recording artists and musicians. It consists of two complete conference events; namely, the Executive Conference which targets music & media business professionals and the Tuneup Conference. The CMW Executive Conference is the official meeting ground for those who truly shape the music & broadcast industries and attracts more than 2000 executives from the industry - CMW claims that over 70% of the attendees are VP/Director or higher. The TuneUp Conference, which runs concurrently with the Executive Conference, is designed to assist new and experienced artists hone their skills in all aspects of their careers. Digital Media Wire hosted Millennials Canada which focused on digital trends and strategies for Generation Y which is those born between 1982 and 2000.

The Conference this year focused in, one way or another, on the dramatic effect that the Internet has had and will have on the music industry and how best to cope with this change. In an interesting session, a respresentative from Bebo was asked how much it was worth to which she answered that she had no idea or. Shortly after, we find out that Bebo was bought out by AOL for $850!

One of this year's celebrity interviews was writer and singer, Alanis Morissette who was inucted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and hooured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
