CMW is Canada's largest annual event dedicated to the celebration and promotion of the country's music, media and entertainment industries. It consists of two conferences, a trade exposition, five awards shows; namely; the Indies, the Crystal Awards, the Music Industry Gala Awards and the Canadian Music Awards, and the Canadian Music Week Festival.

CMW's Music & Entertainment Convention has delegates from record companies, music manufacturers, radio and music television broadcasters, music retailers and distributors, new media/Internet producers, concert promoters, venue managers, music & video producers, and recording artists and musicians. The CMW Executive Conference is the official meeting ground for those who truly shape the music & broadcast industries and attracts more than 2000 executives from the industry - CMW claims that over 70% of the attendees are VP/Director or higher. The TuneUp Conference, which runs concurrently with the Executive Conference, is designed to assist new and experienced artists hone their skills in all aspects of their careers.

The Conference this year focused in, one way or another, on the dramatic effect that the Internet has had and will have on the music industry and how best to cope with this change.
