The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame held its 5th Annual Gala on Saturday March 1, 2008 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts in Toronto. It honored five Canadian music legends including Paul Anka, Claude Dubois and Oscar Peterson and 23 classic Canadian songs including Les Emmerson' s
Signs and Georges Thurston' Aimes-tu la vie comme moi? for their roles in shaping Canada's musical landscape. The who's who of the Canadian music industry
came out in full force to support this fine event. It made us remember and appreciate some of our great music.
The Gala featured incredible performances including Oliver Jones, Dione Taylor and Faith Chorale' rendition of Oscar Peterson and Hariette Hamilton's Hymn to
Freedom; Yelo Molo performing Raôul Duguay's La bittt à Tibi; Anna and Kate McGarrigle, Martha and Rufus Wainwright and Sylvan and Lily Lanken's rendition of
Anna's Heart Like a Wheel; Emilie-Claire Barlow's jazzy version of Alex Kramers Ain't Nobody Here but us Chickens and Anik Jean's version of André Lejeune's
Une promesse.
