Brazilian Carnival Ball

The 43rd annual Brazilian Carnival Ball took place in Toronto on Saturday, April 25, 2009!! The beneficiary for 2009 is the Sickkids Research Foundation which was founded in 1954 and is committed to improving the health of children in Canada and around the world! In traditional Toronto style, the attendees were for the most part, beautifully dressed in black tie missing an opportunity to let loose. Organizers of this Ball claim that it has raised more than $ 53 million net for numerous causes in healthcare, research, education and culture in Canada and Brazil. This beautiful event attracts more than 1,800 carnival revelers from the elite of Toronto's fashion, society, business and the arts as well as Canadian policians. Also attending were His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, KG and the Ambassador of Brazil to Canada and the Consul General of Brazil to Toronto.

This ball raised $ 2 million for the Accolade Project Faculty of Fine Arts at York University in 2006. In 2005, the Brazilian Carnival Ball raised $ 2.1M for the Toronto General Hospital - Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and in 2004, this Ball raised $2 M to support the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute (OAI) at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre which is an international leader in muscular skeletal and rehabilitation care with expertise in arthritis, rheumatology, spinal care, sports injuries and orthopaedic nursing.

SickKids Research Institute

The SickKids Research Institute has for more than fifty years conducted research to further knowledge into childhood diseases which will eventually impact the health of children here in Toronto and children around the world. At this Institute, there are approximately 2,500 staff members who conduct more than 1,000 funded research projects. The SickKids Foundations provides roughly 25% of this Institute's funding.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)

SickKids, The Hospital for Sick Children, is a teaching hospital is affiliated with the University of Toronto. It is internationally recognized as an innovator in child health and is our most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children's health in the country.
