OzFlix: Australian Film Weekend
February 9 to 11, 2007
The 2nd annual Australian Film Weekend was held Feb. 9 to 11, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario at the Isabel Bader Theatre. This film festival, which was directed by Shane Smith and Eileen Arandiga, opened with a reception hosted by the Australian High Commissioner and featured fine Australian wine.
The opening night film was Ten Canoes by directors, Rolf De Heer and Peter Djigirr. This film ( which was shot entirely in an Aboriginal language ) told a tale of forbidden love. It was preceded by Picture Showman a humorous and heart warning short regarding 78 year old Vic Basham who shared his love of movies by bringing his mobile outdoor cinema to remote towns in Western Australia. There was a Kids Program as well as Aboriginal Shorts. The closing screening was Boytown, directed by Kevin Carlin and it told the story of Bobby Mac, Tommy Boy, Corey, Benny G and Carl of Boytown, the original boy band!
