TRANSFORMATION AGO:
Massive Party 2008: Vanities and Vandals - Lose Your Illusion
April 11, 2008

The Art Gallery of Ontario held its fourth annual Massive Party on April 11, 2008 at MUZIK, located in the heart of the CNE in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This exciting art party which attracted well over 1,600 guests, included unique art installations from artists Jennifer Marman & Daniel Borins, Hri Neil, Jon Sasaki, Derek Sullivan, Thrush Holmes, Dan Bergeron, and Jeskia Joy plus unique, very limited Massive Party multiples by Jade Rude and Maryam Keyhani. Couture Cuisine designed a selection of canapés and hors d'oeuvres which included crispy fried shrimp, beef tenderloin on bamboo and frites served in parchment paper! DJ Whitney and DJ ef Sharpe set the tone for Massive Party, and Sebastien Granger et Les Montagnes performed.

The Massive Party's goal was to raise over $100,000 in support of AGO's exhibitions and education programs. Art supporters that TorontoArtsandEvents spoke to at the event were pleased that contemporary art took centre stage as local artists create unexpected installations and performances. The Editor's favourite was Jesika Joy's glam stations, featuring topless performers, pole dancing and oranges as the forbidden fruit - but to appreciate it - you had to try it! Also excellent were the Female Fighting Federation (dressed as cops), Thrush Holmes and his crew affixing paint to canvas all night, and Maryam Keyhani's limited edition ties.

Massive Party was a huge success and all proceeds from it went to support exhibitions and education programming at the AGO. For interesting contemporary art, interesting people and a great party, mark your calender for Massive Party 2009!
