Co-chairs Rispah Adala and Rasool Verjee held Oscar Goes To Africa - A Benefit for HIV/AIDS for the Stepen Lewis Foundation on February 25, 2007 at the Manyata Courtyard Café, Toronto, Canada. "We are excited to celebrate the nominations of Forest Whitaker's role in The Last King of Scotland and Leonardo Di Caprio's in Blood Diamond for performance by an actor in a lead role," said Rispah Adala and Rasool Verjee. Forest Whittaker won best actor for his role as Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin. This fine event was an opportunity to watch the 79th Annual Academy Awards on a large screen in a safari atmosphere. The minimum donation requested for the event was $100, AND 100% of all funds donated were given to the Stephen Lewis Foundation due to the generosity of the sponsors. This is amazing! Guests enjoyed eclectic dishes ranging from North African to Indonesian mixes with some Caribbean flavours which were prepared by executive chefs, Greg Coulliard and David Nganga. Kenyan delights were also served - courtesy of Mobile Miser Inc. (www.mobilemiser.com). Guests were served Safari burgers and fries, courtesy of Hero Burgers. The open bar consisted of special Maasai Martinis, furnished by AMARULA, the tasty Wines of South Africa and Steam Whistle. All guests had an opportunity to win a round trip to Kenya, courtesy of Kenya Airways.

Aids in Africa and the Stephen Lewis Foundation

Although Sub-Saharan Africa has just over 10 percent of the world's population, it has more than 60 percent of all people living with HIV---estimated at 25.8 million. The Stephen Lewis Foundation provides essential assistance to those suffering from HIV/AIDS in this region: it currently funds more than 150 projects with more than 80 organizations in 14 sub-Saharan African countries.
